Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is a condition of over-developed or enlarged breasts in boys and men. About 40% of men experience some degree of gynecomastia in one or both breasts. Although the causes are unknown, the use of certain drugs and some diseases may favour its development.

Treatment consists in removing excess glandular tissue, fat tissue and skin tissue, depending on each case, in order to restore a normal male breast. Liposuction is a very useful tool used as single treatment or in combination with excision.

This is a relatively simple outpatient procedure that requires sedation and local anesthesia; it might leave visible scarring, depending on the skin to be removed. The result may be seen after approximately 30 days, once the post-surgery inflammation period is over.
